French number one Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will not be playing in Abu Dhabi tomorrow. The Frenchman feels he's not prepared yet to start the new season. Tsonga was due to play Davydenko tomorrow. David Ferrer of Spain will take his place.
MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!

Australian Open organizers have said there is little possibility that Belgian world no16 Yanina Wickmayer will get a wildcard into the tournament.
I know that's not exactly news, but today she did it again. She had a 2-6 6-4 6-4 win over Hungarian Katalin Marosi at the rather modest Al Habtoor Tennis Challenge in Dubai, where everything is rather modest these days. The former world number 7 and, judging by the picture, former blonde was a set and 3-0 down, so obviously there's some fight in her yet.

The ITF has authorized Yanina Wickmayer's return to tennis.
Wickmayer has already received a wildcard from the WTA tournament in Auckland and is hoping for another one for the AusOpen.
Xavier Malisse hasn't received any wildcards yet. It is unclear if Malisse is also authorized to play.

A Belgian court has suspended the one-year bans handed to Belgian tennis players Yanina Wickmayer and Xavier Malisse for missing drug tests.
Wickmayer, a semifinalist at the U.S. Open, hopes to receive a wildcard for the Australian Open.
The Belgian judge ruled that the bans violated the European Convention on Human Rights.
Nalbandian vs. Gaudio 6-2 6-2. Non-Fat Dave lost a total of 7 games in his first two matches since his operation. Not bad, against a former Olympic champion and a Roland Garros winner.
(That's meant to be a joke, btw)
In his first match since May David Nalbandian defeated Nicolás Massú 6-2 6-1. At the same exhibition tournament Gaston Gaudio beat Guillermo Cañas 7-5 6-4. Nalbandian and Gaudio play each other later.
An interview with Fat Dave in which he claims he's Fat Dave no more.

What is it with Hingis these days ? Getting caught for cocaine she didn't snort, dumped out of 'Strictly Come Dancing' in the first round and now this:
"There are big differences in the women's game and not all of the players are physically very fit, which I agree is not good for the image of the sport."
Just happen to be all by the same player. :-)
Justine Henin beat Flavia Pennetta in her second match after the comeback, 6-4 6-4. Not too sure if Flavia tried as hard as she could though.
Spain gets home advantage and gets to choose the surface and would you believe it... they win !
Increíble !
Step and Berdy playing after all.
I wonder how last night's result and the long match will have affacted Step's hopping.

Great clip for someone who's not playing.
I've got a feeling the Spaniards won't have forgotten this.
Amélie Mauresmo has announced she's retiring from tennis because she's "sick and tired of smashing the ball in the net instead of over it when the court is completely open."

Well just one and a half.
This pic is really only to please Google Adsense, which has decided that my blog is, for some reason or another not suitable for their advertisers. I hope this convinces them that I'm very serious about this.
Go girl. Scream and shout all u want.
Amélie Mauresmo will probably announce her retirement from tennis at a press conference tomorrow. We will miss the implosions.
Apparently the ATP has decided not to let the Indianapolis tournament move to Atlanta after all, in an attempt to shorten the season. Great thinking, ATP. Retiring a mid-season tournament is definitely a good idea !
If only she had bothered to win the point too...
According to The Sun this is the reason why Kim Sears left Andy Murray: he played videogames for seven hours a day and even on the Wii he didn't manage to win a second set.

While I am no expert on financial markets, how does tweeting encourage "insider information" in regards to gambling. If anything, it would reveal more information, making insider trading more difficult. Unless of course, the cheating player thought we would think that, in which case he would say he was injured when he wasn't. But they also might realize we would suspect them of doing so, so then he would clearly tell the truth. This feels like a scene from either "The Princess Bride" or "Pirates of the Caribbean". In any case, do any of think relevant information that might be used to encourage or discourage gambling is actually revealed in tweets? Even if tweets revealed insider information, with enough insider trading it would driving the people taking the bets out of business hence no more gambling. I also maintain that if people were really honest in their tweets, they would type "I am write this while sitting bored on the john."

• Inconceivable! Indirectly, you are restating one of my points about gambling: you are a fool to bet on tennis, not because there's match fixing, but because there's so much asymmetrical information. If you happen to be at a tournament, you're armed with superior information to the guy home on his laptop. If you happen to have "behind-the-scenes access," you have still better information. If you happen to subscribe to player X's Twitter feed, you might be privy to additional information. ("At Delta counter making reservation because no way I win tomorrow." "I am about to pop this Lidocaine tablet.")

Indianapolis Event Moving to Atlanta in 2010
On the heels of the Kitzbuhel, Austria event moving to Nice, France next season, it was released today that the long standing tournament in Indianapolis will be relocated to Atlanta, Georgia next year.
The Indianapolis Business Journal stated that due to lack of funding for the event, the 30-year-old tournament will be changing venues. Indianapolis had been without a title sponsor since RCA ended its long-time association with the event in 2006.
The tournament was won by Robby Ginepri for the second time earlier this summer.
New Nice Event To Replace Kitzbuhel
The ATP has announced that the Kitzbuhel, Austria event will be replaced in 2010 by a new World Tour 250 series event to be held at the clay courts of the Nice Lawn Tennis Club the week prior to Roland Garros.
“We are delighted to announce the new event in Nice,” said Laurent Delanney, ATP Chief Executive Officer – Europe. “Nice staged a popular ATP World Tour event for many years and it is great to be able to return there after a 15 year absence. Tennis has a huge following in France and many French players compete at the highest level on the ATP World Tour.”
The Nice event becomes the fifth ATP World Tour event in France after Marseille, Metz, Lyon and Paris. Nice had held an ATP World Tour event for several years until 1995. It may also mean a little less traveling for those players who want to stay within France before Roland Garros.

Just because I started this blog today, I've decided to have one last bet this year. :-)
Backed Delpo 1.6 at 2-2 1st set. Since it's the last one of the year, and since I assume this will be like most of the other things I've done this year, I expect to lose.
TB now. Delpo 5-0 down. I think that means he'll have to win the next two sets.
And another BP for Delpo.
HE TAKES IT !!
Oh, Delpo, not from 40-15 ! :(
(not that I'm in the slightest bit surprised that the year ends like this of course). Although Sod is still good for a little choke I feel.
:D back on serve. 4-3*
3rd set TB 4-0 for my man and I'm out.
I end this annus horribilis on a good note and a good omen for 2010. At least that's what I would like to think.
