Australian Open organizers have said there is little possibility that Belgian world no16 Yanina Wickmayer will get a wildcard into the tournament.
I know that's not exactly news, but today she did it again. She had a 2-6 6-4 6-4 win over Hungarian Katalin Marosi at the rather modest Al Habtoor Tennis Challenge in Dubai, where everything is rather modest these days. The former world number 7 and, judging by the picture, former blonde was a set and 3-0 down, so obviously there's some fight in her yet.

The ITF has authorized Yanina Wickmayer's return to tennis.
Wickmayer has already received a wildcard from the WTA tournament in Auckland and is hoping for another one for the AusOpen.
Xavier Malisse hasn't received any wildcards yet. It is unclear if Malisse is also authorized to play.

A Belgian court has suspended the one-year bans handed to Belgian tennis players Yanina Wickmayer and Xavier Malisse for missing drug tests.
Wickmayer, a semifinalist at the U.S. Open, hopes to receive a wildcard for the Australian Open.
The Belgian judge ruled that the bans violated the European Convention on Human Rights.
Nalbandian vs. Gaudio 6-2 6-2. Non-Fat Dave lost a total of 7 games in his first two matches since his operation. Not bad, against a former Olympic champion and a Roland Garros winner.
(That's meant to be a joke, btw)
In his first match since May David Nalbandian defeated Nicolás Massú 6-2 6-1. At the same exhibition tournament Gaston Gaudio beat Guillermo Cañas 7-5 6-4. Nalbandian and Gaudio play each other later.
An interview with Fat Dave in which he claims he's Fat Dave no more.

What is it with Hingis these days ? Getting caught for cocaine she didn't snort, dumped out of 'Strictly Come Dancing' in the first round and now this:
"There are big differences in the women's game and not all of the players are physically very fit, which I agree is not good for the image of the sport."
Just happen to be all by the same player. :-)
Justine Henin beat Flavia Pennetta in her second match after the comeback, 6-4 6-4. Not too sure if Flavia tried as hard as she could though.
Spain gets home advantage and gets to choose the surface and would you believe it... they win !
Increíble !
Step and Berdy playing after all.
I wonder how last night's result and the long match will have affacted Step's hopping.

Great clip for someone who's not playing.
I've got a feeling the Spaniards won't have forgotten this.
Amélie Mauresmo has announced she's retiring from tennis because she's "sick and tired of smashing the ball in the net instead of over it when the court is completely open."

Well just one and a half.
This pic is really only to please Google Adsense, which has decided that my blog is, for some reason or another not suitable for their advertisers. I hope this convinces them that I'm very serious about this.
Go girl. Scream and shout all u want.
Amélie Mauresmo will probably announce her retirement from tennis at a press conference tomorrow. We will miss the implosions.
Apparently the ATP has decided not to let the Indianapolis tournament move to Atlanta after all, in an attempt to shorten the season. Great thinking, ATP. Retiring a mid-season tournament is definitely a good idea !
If only she had bothered to win the point too...
According to The Sun this is the reason why Kim Sears left Andy Murray: he played videogames for seven hours a day and even on the Wii he didn't manage to win a second set.
